Condado Lagoon with Kids: Family Guide
Condado Lagoon is one of the few outdoor activities in San Juan that works for families with small children. The water is shallow, the operators allow kids from around five years old, and the tandem kayaks let parents take the lead while the kid relaxes.
This is the practical family planner.
Minimum age and weight
Most kayak operators on Condado Lagoon allow children from five years old in a tandem kayak with a parent. Some accept four if the kid is comfortable in the water.
Weight limits per kayak are around 400 pounds combined. A family of four can split into two tandems. SUP boards usually require kids to be older or comfortable swimming, since balance is harder.

Best tour length
Pick a one-hour rental or guided tour. Kids enjoy the first thirty minutes, may get restless by minute forty-five, and are ready to be back on land at sixty.
Avoid two-hour and longer experiences with kids under eight unless they paddle regularly back home.
Best time of day
Morning is the calmest water and the coolest temperature. Book a 9:00 or 10:00 AM slot.
Avoid the midday slots in summer. The sun on the water is harsh and there is no shade in the middle of the lagoon.
What to bring for kids
Reef-safe sunscreen reapplied before getting on the kayak. A long-sleeve UPF shirt is better than relying on cream alone.
A water bottle and a snack for after. Most operators do not provide food. Bring a small towel and a change of clothes in a dry bag.
Safety and what the operator handles
Every operator provides a child-sized life vest. They will not put a kid on a SUP alone unless the kid is a confident swimmer. Tandem kayaks are the default family setup.
Guides do a safety briefing in English and Spanish on request. Ask in advance if you want a bilingual session.
Condado Lagoon is family friendly when you keep the tour short, pick a morning slot, and use a tandem kayak. Pack sunscreen, water, and a dry bag. Skip the SUP for kids under ten unless they swim regularly. The lagoon is the easiest active outing you can do with kids in San Juan.
